Major: Biochemistry (Pre-Med)
Minor: Spanish

Why this major?

I had amazing teachers in high school that drew my interest into the sciences. I also really love biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology. I feel like majoring in biochemistry allows me to have a little bit of all these subjects!

What is your career objective?

My future goal is to become a pediatrician or to conduct medical research.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

The courses I’ve taken helped me gain the academic knowledge I need to prepare for graduate school. They’ve also taught me to write and communicate effectively with others in a real-world setting, which is something that jobs look for.

Have you had opportunities to work closely with Carroll faculty?

Carroll’s small class sizes have positively influenced my academic experience, since it allows me to form a stronger relationship with the faculty. I truly feel that I receive more attention as a student at Carroll than I would at a larger university.

What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in your education at Carroll?

My most memorable experiences were in the chemistry labs. It’s an amazing opportunity to collaborate with other students and work through experiments that may not always go the way you expect. The challenges that you overcome during labs really make you feel proud in the end.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person?

Carroll’s cross-cultural program has made my experience unbelievable and I have learned so much from it. Carroll has taught me to respect all cultures and cherish their differences, since that’s what makes each of them unique.

What would you stay to someone considering biochemistry?

The biochemistry major comes with challenges like any other major, but it also includes exciting courses for those interested in the sciences.

How has financial aid made a difference in your life?

Coming in as a first-year, I appreciated the financial aid that I received. It took a lot of burden off my shoulders, allowing me to focus more on my academics.

What’s your favorite place to study on campus?

I love to study at the small tables in Hastad Hall, since it’s not too loud or quiet. It also has a beautiful view of the city of Waukesha.
